NEW YORK, NY, Oct. 31, 2016 — The Sound of Gol Foundation brought together great luminaries for an extraordinary night of fundraising. With the support of UnitedHealthcare’s volunteer initiative DoGoodLiveWell, the foundation celebrated their outstanding accomplishments over their first two years and raised funds to improve the lives of children that currently live in conditions of vulnerability in Bogota, Colombia.
Among the many special moments from the evening was a fun Celebrity Cards Against Humanity match in which the attendees partnered with the stars to raise money. All donations will be going towards opening a film center and building a soccer program for over 100 boys and girls that live in the high risk neighborhood of ‘Kennedy’ located on the outskirts of Bogota. This project came about due to a lack of resources and unsafe living conditions for many of the children, who end up working in the streets with their parents or turning to micro trafficking and prostitution to survive. Sound of Gol founder’s George Valencia and Judy Reyes spread the foundations mission of building strong well rounded leaders in their communities through sport and education.
Valencia and Reyes were joined by soccer legend Jay DeMerit, Elizabeth Rodriguez from the Netflix hit series Orange Is The New Black , David Zayas from the beloved Showtime series Dexter and upcoming series Shut-Eye, True Blood’s Carrie Preston who will soon appear on the anticipated When We Rise, show runner and star of the upcoming Netflix series One Day At A Time; Gloria Calderon Kellet, star of Netflix series One Day At A Time, Justina Machado, Freestyle icon Judy Torres, Florencia Lozano of the critically acclaimed Netflix series Narcos and legendary “Daytime Leading Lady” and award winning actress best known for her outstanding role as Erica Kane on All My Children and for recently starring alongside Reyes on Lifetime’s Devious Maids, the wonderful Susan Lucci.
